Meningitis outbreak in Tripura, claimed fifty lives

Near about fifty people of Chawmanu and the adjoining Longthwraivelly areas have been died and as many are now admitted in different PHC and hospitals in north Tripura district in unidentified diseases (suspected meningitis) for the last fifteen days, the Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath alleged. Touring extensively in those areas Sri Nath briefed the reporters accompanying him that the situation is now worsening day by day and the state govt. remained a spectator. Criticizing the state administration for not responding properly the CLP leader said no minister has so far visited the affected areas, nor health camp has been organized. Demanding immediate convening meeting of Block Advisory Committee of the Chawmanu Block the Leader of the Opposition said the govt. should distribute free ration to the affected people for next three months as part of relief. He visited PHC’s, talked to the patients and their kins and enquired about the govt. services they were provided, if any. Questioning the legitimacy of organizing Health Fair in the capital when people are dying in interior areas the CLP leader said the govt. has unmasked its face and proved that it is now for the rich, by the rich and of the rich people of the town areas.
